Please Help Priscilla!!!

"Priscilla" is a female Jack Russell Terrier who is pregnant. She is also heartworm positive. Priscilla was "rescued" from the Moulltrie-Colquitt County Humane Society in Moultrie, GA. Unfortunately for Priscilla, her rescue turned out to be an animal hoarder. She was living in utter filth along with approximately 50-75 other dogs. The Thomasville County authorities came in and seized all of the dogs. The staff at the Moultrie shelter went to look at the dogs to see if any were theirs and they found 3 dogs there - a chihuahua, a male Jack Russell Terrier and poor Priscilla.
Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue has agreed to take Priscilla into our rescue to give her a safe place to have her babies and so that she can receive the medical treatment that she desperately needs. Priscilla is scheduled to arrive here on Sunday, January 27, 2008.
The cost to treat Priscilla's heartworm is going to be approximately $500. We are now accepting donations to help pay for her medical expenses. If you would like to donate, you may do so at our Fundable Link which is noted above. Thank you so much for your generosity in helping us to help Priscilla!

02/02/2008 09:30AM : Well Prissy is starting to feel comfortable here now. Her
personality is starting to come out and show! This morning she was belly
crawling across my bedroom floor with her little nubby tail wagging as fast as it
could!!! Then she jumped up on the bed, and started kissing me profusely.
When she stopped, I'd kiss her cheek, then she'd start kissing me all over again!
LOL. She's a very sweet girl. She's only had one accident in the house since
her arrival, so I'm pretty sure that she's house trained. I found a bowl heavy
enough that she can't tip it over and spill her food. Only problem now - she
doesn't eat as much! Ugh!!!! I think I may have to go back to the lightweight
bowl, and just let her dump it and spread it out all over the place. I really didn't
want to have to do that. I have no idea why she likes to eat her food off the floor.
Silly, silly girl! She also came nose to nose with my cat Sam today. She seemed
quite curious, but thankfully didn't show any cat aggression, which some Jack
Russell's can do. In a few days I'm going to let her out of the bedroom and start
getting acquainted with everybody. She seems very healthy so far, so I will end
her quarantine after 10 days. Oh, by the way, I leave the TV on for her so she
has some noise to keep her company. She seems quite fond of SpongeBob
Squarepants!!! LOL.
02/01/2008 08:25PM : I made the appointment today for Prissy to have her
heartworm treatment. I'll be bringing her to Towne Animal Clinic on February
12th. Also, have I mentioned that Prissy has the cutest little expressive
eyebrows? They crinkle and wiggle - it makes me laugh every time I see her do
that! She also sits very nicely for a treat and takes it ever so gently from my
hand.
02/01/2008 11:45AM : Uhmmm....sooo..... Prissy really likes Pop Tarts! LOL.
I KNOW - I shouldn't be giving her Pop Tarts. But - she's just so darn cute, and
she's had a rough life, so what's a Pop Tart among friends? :-)
01/31/2008 09:15PM : This morning Prissy was feeling pretty yucky. She didn't
want to walk too much. Also, after she drank some water she immediately
threw it up. But after some good rest today, she's back to her old self again. I
knew that she was feeling better because she's prancing again when outside
for her walk!!! Also, GREAT NEWS - all of the money has been raised for Prissy
to have her heartworm treatment - yes all $400!!! I'm so thankful to everyone
who donated for Prissy. She is so worth it. I'm sure that you would fall in love
with her if you had the pleasure to meet her!
01/30/2008 10:30PM : Prissy went to the vet today to be spayed. She did great
and the surgery went well with no complications. Also, it turns out that she
wasn't pregnant!!! Dr. Bollenbeck told me that she had a "phantom pregnancy"
and was going through all of the hormone changes which is why she appeared
to be pregnant. Prissy also had her rabies shot today and her toe nails clipped.
Once she recovers from the spay, she will start the heartworm treatment (in
about 2 weeks). The clinic staff TOTALLY fell in love with Prissy today. They all
commented on how sweet and precious she is. She's such a mellow girl which
is uncommon in Jack Russell's! She is also quite the snuggler. Dr. B called her
"Sugar Plum"!!! LOL. I also got the official quote today and that combined with
the bloodwork done today in preparation for the H/W treatment will equal $375.
Once Fundable adds their fees, that totals $400 that needs to be raised for
Prissy to have her heartworm treatment. Thank you all for your kind donations!
We only have $80 more to raise for her!!! Yay!
01/30/2008 08:00AM : Prissy is so funny. She doesn't like her food to be in a
bowl. So as soon as you put it down, rest assured that she will spill it and
scatter it allllllll over the floor!!! I have no idea what that's all about! LOL. I
thought that I'd trick her and put it in a heavy crock so she couldn't spill it, but
she still managed to!!! The little rascal! She's going to the vet this morning to be
spayed. I'll update the blog tonight to let you know how she does.
01/29/2008 07:30PM : An appointment has been made to have Prissy spayed
tomorrow at Towne Animal Clinic in Leesburg, VA. The vet will determine upon
examination if he thinks that any additional bloodwork or x-rays need to be
taken before putting her under anesthesia. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that
she tolerates the anesthesia okay and can start her heartworm treatment soon.
01/29/2008 05:00PM : After much deliberation and soul searching I have
decided that the best thing for Prissy is to have her spayed. I think at her
advanced age and heartworm status, that the best thing for HER is to not have to
go through labor and two months of nursing babies. The heartworm treatment
couldn't begin until after she had weaned the babies, and that's two more
months of the worms doing more damage to her heart. Prissy is here in front of
me, I already love her, and I need to put her best interests at heart. There are so
many unwanted puppies in the shelters already that will face death. I think my
time is better spent nursing Prissy through her heartworm treatment and
rescuing other puppies that have already been born and are in high kill shelters
begging for help and loving homes. Thank you everyone for sending me advice
on what to do for Prissy. I value all of your opinions! Prissy sends her love to
each and every one of you!
01/29/2008 02:00PM : The vet determined that Prissy Priscilla the Prancing
Queen is approximately 7-8 years old. She is a healthy girl and approximately 4
weeks pregnant. So, she should be having babies in about 4-5 weeks. She's a
good weight at 16 pounds. The vet offered to spay her now and abort her
babies. I don't really know how I feel about that yet. My first inclination is to let
her have the babies. I already love them and they haven't even been born yet.
But my brain is asking myself if it's better for Priscilla to be spayed since she is
so old and heartworm positive. I am going to make my decision on what to do
by tomorrow morning. If I spay her, then it needs to be done as soon as
possible. I will keep you all posted on what decision I make for her.
01/29/2008 08:30AM : Okay, Priscilla has a new name.... "Prissy Priscilla the
Prancing Queen"!!!! She doesn't walk. She prances! And I have to tell you, it's
so darn cute!!! She is definitely a prissy little thing too!
01/28/2008 07:30AM : Priscilla arrived yesterday. She is such a sweet and
loving girl! She has such a darling face! She had a good restful night. She
seems very timid when outside. When we go for walks her body does this slight
tremble and she likes to stick very close to me. I sat outside with her on my
front stoop for a while this morning just letting her survey her new neighborhood
and try to relax. I think it will take a week or so for her to feel safe. I gave her a
bath last night because she was so dirty. That must be red clay on her side,
because most of it wouldn't come out. It looks like it's permanently dyed that
color! Some of it did come out though, so it's not as noticeable. She seemed
quite pleased after she got out of the tub! I wrapped her up in a towel like a little
JRT-burrito and snuggled her up. She then proceeded to run around my
bedroom rolling around on the carpet trying to get dry! LOL. Her appointment
with my vet is tomorrow morning. I will find out then how far along she is in her
pregnancy.

06/15/2008 3:30PM : I received an Adoption Application today for sweet Prissy!!!
Yay! I will process the app this week then schedule the home visit. Keep your
fingers crossed that everything goes well so that Prissy will finally be in her
fur-ever home! :-)
05/31/2008 3:00PM : It was thundering and lightning today. Poor Prissy is
apparently afraid of storms. She jumped up on the couch with me and snuggled
up close - her whole body was trembling. She kept staring at the window like
some evil monster was getting ready to come through it! Thankfully the storm
has passed and she's napping now.
05/29/2008 9:50PM : This sweet girl is creating quite the "Fan Club"!!! She
impresses everyone that she meets and they all love her to pieces! How
couldn't you fall in love with that sweet face?!?! But, don't let her fool you - she
may look totally innocent, but she is the biggest instigator of the mayhem in my
house! LOL. She is quick to start the wrestling matches and has a fetish for
dissecting all of the stuffed toys to remove the squeakers inside! Never a day
goes by when I don't find cotton stuffing on the floor! But, she is very sweet
when she's snuggled up in bed with me. She always wants to be pressed tight
against my side! And if it's slightly chilly she will burrow under the covers then
snuggle up close!
03/16/2008 10:15AM : Prissy is doing great! She is just full of spunk!!! She is no
longer on crate rest, so she loves, loves, loves to play with the other dogs and
the cats. She especially loves her stuffed toys! I will be so happy when Prissy
has a permanent home. This sweetie has so much to offer and I know that
whoever adopts her is going to be overjoyed with her. I also gave Prissy another
bath this morning. That reddish brown stain refused to come out with regular
dog shampoo. So I bought her special shampoo for dogs with white hair called
Whitening Shampoo. Wow! Does that stuff work wonders! Prissy is now
sparkly white like she should be. I highly recommend whitening shampoo for
anyone with a dog that has white fur - it's amazing!
03/03/2008 10:40PM : I went ahead and posted Prissy as up for adoption tonight.
Figured it couldn't hurt to start looking for a home for her now. She is a very
happy girl and seems like her old self once again. I am hopeful that someone
just falls in love with that sweet face and wants to give her a permanent home
for the rest of her life.
03/01/2008 11:00PM : Prissy is definitely feeling better. I had to crack up
laughing as I watched her play with her stuffed toys today. She's had two
stuffies in her crate with her this whole time, but she never played with them.
Today she was flinging them all over her crate and chewing on them! It was so
darn cute! She has her appetite back and is eating all of her food like a good
girl. She doesn't seem to be as stiff in her back end anymore either. I'm very
happy that my little girl is doing so well. If she keeps it up, I will finally be able to
place her officially up for adoption to start looking for a permanent home for her.
I just want to make sure that she's feeling better and comes through her H/W
treatment okay first before posting her for adoption.
02/25/2008 6:30PM : Yesterday I noticed that Prissy was getting pretty stiff in
her back end. This morning when I took her outside to go potty she only walked
a short ways, then laid down and didn't want to get up. She also started
coughing a little bit. I dropped her off at the clinic this morning and Dr. Rice
examined her. Prissy had a 104.6 fever. She has been put on antibiotics and a
steroid, and they also gave her some sub-q fluids because she was slightly
dehydrated. Prissy has lost 1.5 pounds as she hasn't had much of an appetite
lately too. I picked her up tonight and she is definitely starting to feel better. She
wanted to go for her walk tonight and was actually prancing again! She'll be on
meds for the next 14 days to get her over this hurdle. This is all very typical of a
dog that has had heartworm treatment. Prissy is in her crate resting
comfortably right now. She has a queen size fluffy comforter in her crate and
she loves to burrow under it so all you see is a little bump in the middle!
02/24/2008 11:30PM : Prissy has been dealing with her crate rest like a true
lady! She doesn't complain at all. I noticed today that she is pretty stiff in the
back end - from inflammation where the injections were done in her lower back.
I'm going to call Dr. B tomorrow to see if I can pick up another anti-inflammatory
for her to make her more comfortable. Her loving personality has not waiver
through all of this and I am very proud of my girl!
02/14/2008 09:30PM : I picked Prissy up today from the vets. She had her
treatment, and it went without a hitch. She is now on strict rest for 4 weeks
though. Prissy is definitely a big hit at Towne Animal Clinic - this little girl
definitely knows how to work her charm!!! Everyone there seemed to fall in love
with her. It sounds like there may be a possibility of someone wanting to adopt
her that works there too! I won't mention names, but Prissy and I are both
keeping our fingers and paws crossed that they will decide to give her a
permanent home which Prissy so deserves!!! :-)
02/13/2008 04:00PM : I dropped Prissy off at the vet clinic today for her
treatment. She'll have the first injection today then the next one tomorrow. I'll
be able to pick her up tomorrow evening to bring her home, as long as there are
no complications.
02/12/2008 08:00PM : Prissy was supposed to start her heartworm treatment
today. But, it snowed and I don't like to drive in the snow, so it has been
postponed until tomorrow. Prissy had fun prancing outside in the snow today
though! And, I took a short video of her playing with Cookie Monster and Teddy
today too. You can view it here:
09/03/2008 10:35PM : Prissy Priscilla has officially been adopted!!!! :-) My
neighbors have fallen in love with this precious girl and decided to make her a
family member today. Prissy has been having fun playing with the grandkids
and also roughing it up with their two dogs, Coco and Taco. I think that she will
have a wonderful life from now on and be a much loved family member! Yay for
Prissy!!!!
08/02/2008 11:00PM : Well, Prissy is still with me waiting for her fur-ever home.
She almost had a fabulous home, but she wasn't too fond with their Rottweiler,
Zeus. Too bad, because she would have had a great home for the rest of her
life. But, she will eventually find that perfect home that she loves, loves, loves!
Prissy was also retested for Heartworm, and she still tests positive. :-( She is
still on her monthly preventative and will be retested again in about 4-6 months
with the hope that she'll be negative then. Below is a fun video of Prissy
demolishing a doggie toy with her friends!
