Meet Jason (AKA "Loveable Limpy")!!!
Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue
MEET JASON!

Jason is a sweet hound mix boy that came from North Carolina.  He was
seized by local animal control because his owner had neglected him.  The
young man who had Jason didn't bother to take him to a vet when he injured
his leg.  As you can see from the pic above, the break was very bad and must
have been extremely painful.

Thankfully for Jason a kind volunteer at the shelter took his pictures and
worked to find him a safe place to go.  She affectionately dubbed him
"Loveable Limpy"!

Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue agreed to take Loveable Limpy into our rescue to
get him proper medical treatment and to find him a new loving home.  He has
been renamed "Jason"!  We are anticipating that Jason will need to have his
injured leg amputated.  He is scheduled to arrive in rescue on Saturday,
October 11th.  An appointment w/ our regular vet has already been scheduled
so that Jason can be examined.  If surgery is required, we are hoping that he
can stay at the hospital on Monday so he won't have to wait anymore for
proper medical treatment.

We have been told that this boy is very LOVEABLE and sweet.  His too cute for
words face is enough to melt the coldest of hearts!  We will keep you updated
on Jason's progress... STAY TUNED!

10/11/2008 @ 11:30PM : Jason arrived safe & sound today!  He had a long day being
transported up from North Carolina but he was surprising happy and chipper!  His leg
injury definitely looks more severe now that I've seen it in person.  There are puncture
looks holes on the inside of his leg that have some fluid draining from it.  I have put him
on the antibiotic Cephalexin to help prevent any infection.  I'm looking forward to taking
him to the vet on Monday to have him assessed.  I  have a strong feeling that he will end
up needing to have the leg amputated.  Jason does still use the injured leg about half the
time, even though it is atrophied and twisted.  I took a short video of Jason today and
have posted it above so you can see him.  I'm actually surprised by his size -- I was
expecting to get a 55-60lb dog, when in actuality he's only around 35 pounds or so.  And
he has the cutest corkscrew like tail!  I see hound in him, but can't quite decide what
else he is mixed with.  He has the softest velvet coat too!  He's a very sweet boy and I
look forward to seeing his progress and eventually finding him a perfect fur-ever home!

10/15/2008 @ 11:00PM : Jason had his surgery today to amputate his leg.  The surgery
went smoothly with no complications.  He was also neutered at the same time.  He's
been exhibiting some separation anxiety since the surgery though.  He will cry and
whimper unless there is someone constantly touching him.  The clinic staff said that he
was like a small child -- fighting not to go to sleep!!!  LOL  Just as I arrived tonight to pick
him up he had just fallen asleep!  He had such droopy little eyes that he looked sooo
pathetic!  He pretty much whimpered the whole way home too.  When we got home he
really surprised me with his ability to walk exceptionally well on 3 legs!  It doesn't seem
to phase him at all to walk around as a tripod.  I was quite impressed!!!  He's resting
comfortably in his crate right now.  I don't think he could stay awake any longer!  LOL  He
ate his dinner then laid down and fell fast asleep.

10/14/2008 @ 10:00PM : I found out tonight that Jason tested negative for Heartworm!
Yay!  He is also going to be given a dose of Frontline for fleas.  His surgery will happen
tomorrow afternoon.  Keeping fingers crossed that it goes smoothly.

10/13/2008 @ 6:30PM : Jason went to the vet today.  He had x-rays taken to assess the
damage in his leg.  They also aspirated the swollen area too.  We found that he has a
pretty bad bacterial infection in the leg right now.  Also, it was determined that the best
option for him is to amputate this leg.  If they removed the diseased bone, then plated the
rest, he would lose quite a bit of length off his leg, making that leg significantly shorter
than the other.  Also, he doesn't have the range of motion in the muscle to allow for
proper flexing of the joints.  Lastly, he has some slight nerve damage in the limb as well.
So, all of that resulted in the best form of treatment being amputation.  I left him at the vet
clinic today.  He will get some good antibiotics for the infection.  Then, on Wednesday
afternoon he will have his surgery to remove the leg.  I will keep everyone posted on
Wednesday to let you know how his surgery goes.

10/12/2008 @ 8:45AM : This morning I got up around 6am and went over to Jason's crate.
I figured he'd be trying to run out of it, but instead he rolled over on his back so I could
rub his belly!  LOL  After a good scratch he went for his walk and oh man, was he a
happy boy!  This has to be one of the most chipper and HAPPIEST dogs that I have ever
met!  He was bouncing all over the place, wagging his tail and giving me kisses.  It's
amazing how bouncy he is with that injured leg.
10/29/2008 @ 10:00AM : Jason is such a snuggle bug!  He is a very, very affectionate
young man.  He will always press his face against your chest and wiggle his body so he
can be leaning against you.  He just craves touch.  He is such a sweet baby and has a
wonderful temperament.  I've learned that he gets along well with the cats and all of the
other dogs.  He is now crate trained as well.  Oh -- he's a "talker" too!  He likes to talk to
you while on his walk as he runs and plays.  This morning it was windy and he was
chasing the leaves blowing in the breeze then he turned around to look at me then
started talking to me so I could share in his excitement!  This boy just has such a sweet
zest for life!

10/27/2008 @ 7:40PM : Jason had his staples removed today.  The incision looks great.
Dr. Rice noticed that he does hyper-extend his hock joint on his good leg though.  Mainly
from compensating for the missing leg.  He thinks that he should be okay though.  I also
picked up some Drontal for sweet Jason while there -- he is FULL of worms!  Ewwww!!!
I found out today while driving to the vet that Jason is a music lover.  He really likes to be
sung to -- he'll lean in and rest his head against your body.  If you stop singing he licks
her face incessantly until you start again!  It was a riot!!!  He's such a little cutie.  I would
like to get another video of him soon.  Just need to remember to recharge my camera
batteries!  :-)

10/22/2008 @ 10:30AM : I don't think that he's completely aware of the fact that his leg
is gone.  That, or he is having "phantom leg" moments!  He had an itch last night.  So he
sat down and tried to scratch it with the leg that is no longer there!  His little stump was
just going up and down trying to get that itch!  Then he paused and looked back with a
confused look like "What the HECK?!?!"  So of course I had to scratch his ear for him so
he wouldn't be annoyed!  LOL

10/17/2008 @ 7:30PM : Now down to $897.13 left to raise to pay the entire vet bill!
THANK YOU EVERYONE for your continued support.  I know that times are tough
financially for so many people because of the bad economy.  I sincerely appreciate the
help.  And, I know that Jason does too!  He was like lightning tonight on his walk -- just
zipping around all over the place!  I was thinking that he'd get tired since he's not used
to supporting his weight on just one rear leg, but I got tired before he did!  LOL  He has
such an amazing spirit this little boy.  I can't wait for the staples to be removed so he
doesn't have to wear that awful e-collar.  Patience!  :-)

10/16/2008 @ 10:10PM : I called the vet clinic today to get the total for the final bill for
Jason's treatment.  The total came in at a whopping $1,407.13!!!!  STICKER SHOCK!!!  We
have raised a total of $490 so far for his treatment and I'm soooo thankful to the people
who have donated.  Jason is so worth it.  He just loves people and life and it would have
been a shame for him to be euth'd simply because he had a bum leg.  Please let folks
know about Jason so we can raise the money for most of the bill.  Thanks again!!!
Jason is doing great by the way.  He ran for his entire walk.  I couldn't slow him down if I
tried!  LOL  He definitely has his sea legs now and there is just now stopping that boy!
He didn't want to come back inside!  :-)

10/16/2008 @ 9:00AM : Jason had an uneventful night last night.  He slept very soundly
all night long.  He woke up this morning bright eyed and bushy tailed!!!!  He went for his
walk like a good boy and the tripod thing doesn't slow him down a bit!  I took a short
video of him this morning lounging on the couch!  I posted it below for you to see!  He's
such a cutie!!!  :-)

HOSPITAL!!!
11/30/2008 @ 3:30PM : Jason was adopted today!!!  Yay!  I am so very proud of my little
man!  Jason stole the heart of Barb - a wonderful woman that will give Jason the love
he deserves for the rest of his life.  No more being neglected for this boy!  Only hugs
and kisses!!!

We still have $542.13 left to raise to pay off Jason's vet bills though.  Any help is
greatly and sincerely appreciated.  Jason was very deserving of this medical care,
and I couldn't have asked for a happier outcome!  Big thanks to all of the donors so far
- Jason sends you hugs!  :-)
