8/2/2008 @ 11:00PM - Lincoln is doing fabulous!  He had his surgery and it went
very, very well.  His incision looks good and Lincoln is such a good boy that he
hasn't messed with it at all.  He hasn't even needed to wear the dreaded
e-collar!  He walks much the same way that he did before he had the surgery.
He puts that leg down when he's walking, but he picks the leg up and carries it
when he runs.  In time he'll build that leg back up again and will go back to using
it all the time.  I'm going to try and get some new pics and hopefully a video of
him tomorrow.  If I do, I'll get it posted to the website!  I'll be taking him back to
the vet soon to have his staples removed too.

7/16/2008 @ 9:00AM - Between the Fundable account, PayPal and cash
donations, we have raised a grand total of $570!!!  We only need $1430 more to
be able to pay for Lincoln's surgery.  Thank you everyone who has donated.  I
truly appreciate all your kindness and generosity.  Lincoln thanks you all as well!

7/13/2008 @ 1:30PM - I gave Lincoln his bath today.  He was very good for it, and
I think very grateful!  His coat looks great now -- very clean and shiny!!!  He sure
needed a bath - everytime I would pet him it would turn my hand black!

7/8/2008 @ 10:30PM - I've discovered that Lincoln is a "leaner"!!!  LOL  He loves
to lean against you while being loved on!  He is also quite fond of belly rubs!  It
just breaks my heart though - he's so thin that his breast bone between his front
legs is only like 3 inches across of just bone.  There's nothing but bone.  So
when I rub his belly and chest I'm really just rubbing his bones.  I really hate
when I see skinny dogs.  This guy is huge - he stands up to my hips, and he's
only 68.5 pounds!  When he's totally filled back out I won't be surprised if he's
around 95+ pounds.  He really is a gorgeous dog too - I love his firey red coat!
Oh, and the donations are really starting to come in now - we're up to $280, with
only $1,720 left to go!!!  I'm really hoping that the entire amount can be raised by
July 25th.  Lincoln should be ready for his surgery by then.  It'd be nice to have
the full amount to pay off the surgery bill when Dr. Rice operates.

7/8/2008 @ 12:45AM - We've raised $230, and only have $1770 left for Lincoln's
surgery!!!  :-)

7/7/2008 @ 9:45AM - We've raised a grand total of $110 so far for Lincoln's
surgery!  Yippeee!!!!  Thanks everyone who has been crossposting and donating
for him!  Lincoln has really been chowing down!  LOL  He seems more
comfortable today and actually wanted to go for a walk instead of just staying in
my front yard.  At first he hopped on his good leg while holding up the bad one,
but shortly afterwards he actually would walk on the bad one too.  I think that
he's really looking forward to having his surgery though so he can be totally pain
free!  :-)

7/6/2008 @ 8:45PM - Well Lincoln just got brushed.  He really enjoyed it -- up until
I got to his tail, then he tried to bite me!  Didn't help that I just discovered that he
has a new hot spot at the base of his tail.  Poor Fellow!  He must really be
uncomfortable.  I can't wait for him to have his surgery so he'll be feeling allllll
better!

7/6/2008 @ 10:40AM - We've raised $80 so far for Lincoln's surgery!  Yay!  Thank
you everyone who has donated so far.  You are all angels!  Lincoln is resting
comfortably and chowing down!  :-)  I got my first tail wag this morning too!  He
likes to snuggle up close then put his snout under my arm and flip it up so that
I'll continue to pet him!  LOL  I'm considering giving him a bath today -- he's so
stinky don't know if I can stand it anymore.  The poor guy has a hot spot that
appeared over night under his chin on his neck.  I'll get that cleaned up and give
him some Cephalexin so it doesn't get worse.  He reminds me of "Bob" the dog
in the Janet Evanovich books -- her Stephanie Plum series.  Bob the dog is just a
big doof, and that is exactly what Lincoln is!  He seems true to his golden
retriever heritage and is pretty mellow and a big goof ball.

7/5/2008 @ 10:30PM - Meet Lincoln!  He is a stray male Golden Retriever that
was hit by a car.  My neighbors found him wandering around our subdivision on
July 4th.  They rang my doorbell at Midnight to help with this big fluffy pooch!  It
was obvious that he had been hit by a car.  His back end was injured, but the
rest of him seemed to be in good condition.  He was named "Lincoln" since he
needed a patriotic name as he was found on Independence Day!!!  What better
patriotic name than being named after Abraham Lincoln!  :-)

Lincoln was taken to see Dr. Rice.  He advised that Lincoln is too thin - he needs
to gain at least 20 pounds to get back up to a healthy weight.  He took x-rays and
found that he has a broken pelvis.  This poor poochie is going to require surgery
to repair the damage.  But, good news -- Lincoln is heartworm negative and his
fecal was also negative!  Yay!  He was dewormed just as a precaution though
since it's obvious this boy has been a stray for a while.

Lincoln is approximately 1 year old.  And boy oh boy does he STINK!!!
Peeee-Yewwwww!!!  He'll be getting a bath soon!  LOL  His coat is filthy and full
of mats.  The wonderful Towne Animal Team shaved some of the biggest mats
off of his head, right behind his ear.

Dr. Rice believes that the injuries to his hind end didn't happen recently.  :-(
We need to beef Lincoln up some and put some weight on this boy so that he
can tolerate the anesthesia.  Dr. Rice advised that it'll be better to hold off on the
surgery for 2-3 weeks.  As Lincoln's injuries aren't recent it won't make that
much more of a difference if we wait some.  The best part is that if you're going
to have a hip injury, Lincoln has the best kind!  The weight bearing part of the
pelvis and femur are still intact so he can still walk - just slow like an old man.
Lincoln is on some pain meds and he should be good to go!  He has a good
appetite and will hopefully be fattened up soon for his surgery.

Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue is in need of donations to help pay for his surgery.
Lincoln was an unexpected 4th of July present!  :-)  We don't want to see this
boy suffer, and he seems to have a very nice golden retriever attitude, so he'd
really appreciate the opportunity to have the necessary surgery so that he can
find a new home once he's healthy again!

Thanks everyone!!!

11/08/2008 @ 9:00PM - My sweet darling Lincoln was adopted today...  He is now
a proud member of the Wescott Family!!!  Lincoln had a splendid time playing in
their back yard and bonding with his new Mommy & Daddy.  He is going to have a
wonderful life and be very, very loved.  Lincoln is such a special boy, and he has
definitely found a home worthy of him!

10/27/2008 @ 8:00PM - Did I mention that Lincoln plays dirty?!?!  I had him out in
the field again tonight -- doing our "wrestling match"!  He always runs up behind
me and yanks on my shirt trying to pull me over - the big DOOF!  He's definitely a
lot stronger now, as he will actually jump up on me while standing on his back
legs for a little bit.  He never would have done that before.  It's very satisfying to
see the progress that he's made.  So ... I do forgive him for playing dirty with me!
LOL  One of the biggest problems with Lincoln now is that he still thinks he's a
puppy.  I remind him every day that he's NOT a puppy!  He's a big 80lb
knucklehead!  He likes to "puppy mouth" still.  He's so playful that he does it
without really thinking about it.  It's like he just thinks that I'm one of the pack and
that's his way of playing with me.  But, I've been reminding him that I don't have
fur and his teeth hurt!!!!  It's funny to watch him play though.  He's all legs and it's
like he doesn't know which way his legs are moving, so he's very, very
uncoordinated!  There were some people at the motel near my house and they
were watching me play with him in the field.  I could hear them laughing at
Lincoln's antics!  Of course when he "mouths" me a little too hard I give him a
firm "Ah!" and he'll sit down then put his paw on my leg to say he's sorry!!!  Like I
said -- BIG DOOF!  You just can't stay mad at him because he's too darn cute!

10/15/2008 @ 11:00PM - Boy, it's been awhile since I posted an update on
Lincoln!  I'm so sorry in the delay.  Lincoln is of course doing fabulous!!!!  He's a
very smart boy.  He knows sit, down, paw and other paw!  He's funny because he
does it now without me even asking because he thinks he'll get a treat!  LOL  So,
in the morning he will see me, and sit then start trying to shake hands with me!!!
It's so darn cute!!!  He has put on weight and is at his ideal weight now.  It's so
nice to pet him and not feel bones anymore.  His coat is gorgeous and shiny too!
He's a very, very happy dog.

8/9/2008 @ 4:00PM - Lincoln had the staples removed yesterday.  The vet said
that he's doing great!  I've learned some things about dear Lincoln since his
arrival....

1.  He's a very social eater, so will only eat if I keep him company!  Yes, this
means that twice a day I have to sit by his bowl while he eats his breakfast and
dinner!  LOL

2.  When he drinks his water, she shoves his whole snout into the bowl spilling
water everywhere!  Don't ask me how he can breathe while drinking water if his
face is submerged, but he LOVES doing that!  I guess he is a retriever so must
love the water!

3.  He is not a fan of cats.  He chases them and barks at them when they hide
from him!  So he must be supervised when the kitties are around to keep
everyone safe.

4.  He's a big DOOF!!!!  :-)  I love him dearly.  He has a great personality and is such
a calm and patient boy.

5.  He loves to wrestle with me in the large field near my house.  I take him out
there in the evenings to play with him to encourage him to use his bad leg more.
Although, he plays dirty -- he snuck up behind me and snagged my shirt and
started pulling backwards trying to pull me over!  LOL  What a bratty dog!

6.  He's housebroken and doesn't mess with anything in the house.  He has
wonderful manners.

7.  He's going to make some lucky family very happy when they adopt him!

I took a video of Sir Lincoln today.  I wanted all of you to see how he's doing!  You
can view it below!
